Class Requirements

Class Requirements

Students who are chosen to compete in the following disciplines must enroll in the required class curriculum below:

MINI COMPETITIVE TEAM (5/6 YRS.)

Mini students will automatically be enrolled in a minimum 3 hours of classes combining skills and choreography classes. Mini Team members will compete in two choreography disciplines.

If offered, students may choose up to four choreography classes, but must meet the three hours requirement first. Choreography disciplines offered are Tap, Jazz, Acro, and Ballet.

PART-TIME Program Requirements

Students are asked to complete 3-6 hours of training per week. Part-time team members may only participate in a maximum of 2 choreography classes in addition to their required skills classes.

**Part-time students are also required to participate in three days of conditioning ‘back to dance’ camp that will be scheduled the first week of September prior to our regular season.

Ballet – all competing students must enroll in a minimum of two ballet classes/week; and a contemporary, in addition to their choreography class.

Jazz – all competing students must enroll in two jazz skills class and one ballet class, in addition to a choreography class.

Tap ­– all competing students must enroll in one tap skills classes, one ballet class and one jazz class, in addition to their tap choreography class.

Acro – all competing students must enroll in one acro skills class and one jazz class and one ballet class, in addition to their choreography class.

Hip-Hop – all competing student must enroll in two hip-hop classes, in addition to their choreography class.

INTENSIVE Competitive Training (ICT)

Ballet – all competing students must enroll in a minimum of three ballet skills classes and the option of one contemporary or one jazz class, in addition to their choreography class. Students who choose not to take their R.A.D. exam will not be offered solo/duet/trio opportunities.

Jazz – all competing students must enroll in a minimum of two jazz skills classes, a minimum of three ballet classes (pointe excluded) and one additional contemporary/acro/hip-hop class, in addition to a choreography class.

Tap – all competing students must enroll in two tap skills classes, two ballet classes, and one jazz class, in addition to their choreography class.

Acro – all competing students must enroll in one acro skills class, one jazz skills class, one ballet class and a stretch and strengthen class, in addition to their choreography class It is highly recommended that all acro competing students attend a tumbling class (at a different location) in addition to their choreography class.

Lyrical – students must be enrolled in the ICT jazz or ballet program before being invited or permitted to compete in this discipline.

Musical Theatre – students must be enrolled in the ICT jazz program before being invited or permitted to compete in this discipline.

Hip hop – all competing students must enroll in two hip-hop classes and one breakdance class, in addition to their choreography class. *Team members who compete with the ICT jazz program will be asked to only complete one hip-hop class.

  • Competitive students in the Intensive Training program are required to participate in five days of conditioning “Back to Dance” camp that will be scheduled the first 2 weeks of September prior to our regular season.
  • ICT members will also be required to attend 1 outside dance workshop held in the fall in the GTA.
  • We also encourage ICT members to participate in one of our Intensive Dance Camps throughout the summer session. July and August weeks offered.

Team Select participants require a minimum of 10 hours of basic training in addition to choreography. Students must follow the vocational levels of RAD Ballet. Examinations in all areas of study are required where applicable.
